Microsoft Windows 7 has had a good run, but support is ending January 14th 2020. That means no more updates for security fixes, bug fixes or features. This presents a real problem for anyone using their computer for online access. Since there won't be anymore updates, the operating system will be targeted by viruses and scammers. There is only so much that your antivirus can do to protect you. You need constant updates to keep you, your family, your financials, and your identity safe. So what can you do about it?
Upgrade to Microsoft Windows 10.
You can upgrade two ways.
- You can upgrade your current computer to Windows 10 by downloading the upgrade tool from Microsoft after purchasing a Windows 10 license. Just make sure that your computer is compatible with Windows 10 with the compatibility checker first. As long as the compatibility checker doesn't give you any red flags, purchase your Windows 10 license and run the upgrade tool. As always, anytime you are doing anything major with your computer, backup your Documents, Pictures, Videos, and any other important information to an external hard drive or thumb drive before you get started.
- Or you can purchase a new PC with Windows 10 already installed and just back up your files and copy them to the new computer. This is the recommended option since Windows 10 will run much more smoothly on a newer computer and the hardware is guaranteed to work with Windows 10. Purchasing a new computer may sound excessive or expensive but prices for desktop and laptop computers have come down in price significantly since you purchased that Windows 7 computer. Search Amazon or Best Buy and find something that fits your budget. If your budget allows, try to get a computer that has at least an i5 processor with at least 4 gigabytes of RAM. This will make your experience with Windows 10 much more pleasant.
Of course Telpage can assist with this transition. Telpage can upgrade your current PC to Windows 7 for the cost of the Windows 10 upgrade plus one hour labor. Please download and run the compatibility checker before bringing your computer in. If it fails the compatibility check then you will need to purchase a new computer.
If you purchase a new computer, Telpage can do the initial setup, updates and transfer your files from your old computer to the new one for one and a half hours labor.
Don't forget about your Microsoft Office products. If you are purchasing a new computer and are currently using Microsoft Office you will need to purchase Microsoft Office for the new computer.
